agreeing to a list of relaxations

and the abolition of all re-

Druse communities.
Insisting that some form of
military rule was still needed
in the border areas, Ben-Gurion
told the Knesset before the
vote that he regarded abolition
of the military regulations and
administration "as abandonment
of the state to the intrigues of
the enemy in the neighboring
countries and the intrigues of
those who hate the state of
Israel in this country."
He said military rule was
necessary to the security of the
state and to "the peace of the

JERUSALEM — The heaviest
snowfall in many years blanket-
ed the Jerusalem area Tuesday
morning, disrupting traffic, cut-
ting off the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv
highway, halting railways and
crippling bus and auto traffic
in the city.
Most schools and the Hebrew
University were closed because
of the s n o w f al 1. Children
romped in the unusual snowfall
of several inches.
Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel's For-
eign Minister, who interrupted
a Far Eastern tour to hurry
back to Israel for a crucial
Parliament vote on military
government, was one of those
caught in the snowfall. She
went from Jerusalem Monday
night to visit relatives in Tel-
Aviv and found the road back .
to Jerusalem blocked Tuesday
morning.
Several other members of
the Knesset seeking to reach
Jerusalem to take part in the
vote found themselves in the
same situation. Plans were made
to fly them to Jerusalem by
helicopter if no other way was
found.
The vote on easing .or aboli-
tion of military government in
some Arab populated border
areas was expected to be a
tight one. Five bills to end
such government have been sub-
mitted by Herut, the Liberal
Party, Mapam, Achdut Avodah
and the Communists. Agudat
Israel decided to oppose these
measures, giving the govern-
ment an apparent slender

majority.
