Neumann Speaks Here Thursday at

Dr. Emanuel Neumann, co-
chairman of the Jewish Agency
for Israel, honorary president of
the Zionist Organization of
America, and one of the most
distinguished leaders in the
world Zionist movement, will
address the sixth annual Bal-
four victory dinner of the Zion-
ist Organization of Detroit, next
Thursday, at Holiday Manor.

Last month, Dr. Neumann
gained national acclaim for hav-
ing secured the $1,000,000
gift from Abraham and Jacob.

In his address here, Dr. Neu-
mann will discuss latest develop-
ments in the Zionist movement,
based on decisions of the Jewish
Agency whose sessions he at-
tended in Jerusalem. He will
especially discuss the educa-
tional objectives of the move-
ment and the need for expanded
cultural activities in this coun-
try.
Recognition will be given at
the dinner to the members of
the Balfour concert committee
who aided in making a success
of the recent cultural and fund-
raising event. -
Richard B. Kramer, who
headed the Balfour Concert
committee in November, is
chairman of the dinner arrange-
ments committee. His co-chair-
men are Mesdames Ira G. Kauf-
man and I. Walter. Silver.

An outstanding statesman
of the Zionist Movement and
often referred to as one of
the architects of the Republic
of Israel, Dr. Neumann was
called to re-assume the presi-
dency of the Zionist Organi-
zation of America in 1956 and
served until 1958. He had
been previously elected presi-
dent of the organization in
1947 and again in 1948. Since
1957, Dr. Neumann also heads
the World Confederation of
General Zionists as its Presi-
dent.

1939, devoting himself to the
country's economic develop-
ment, as well as vital political
matters, such as his negotia-
tions with Abdullah, ruler of
Transjordan.
In 1943 Dr. Neumann organ-
ized and also headed the Com-
mission on Palestine Surveys,
which brought together a dis-
tinguished group of American
experts to work out engineering
plans known as the Jordan Val-
ley Authority Project for hydro-
electric and power develop-
ments in Palestine.
As a member of the Jewish
Agency delegation to the United
Nations, he negotiated with rep-
resentatives of many govern-
ments and helped to bring
about the adoption of the reso-
lution on the partition of Pales-
tine on Nov. 29, 1947.
At the Zionist Congress held
in Jerusalem in 1951 and 195
Dr. Neumann was re-elected
member of the Jewish Agenc
Executive.
On Jan. 4, 1962, Dr. Neuman
launched the first , America
Foundation for Hebrew Cultur
