During his recent visit in
Washington with his wife, Ben-
jamin Levinson, president of the
- Franklin Mortgage Corporation,
was feted by the congressmen
and senators who recalled the
days whe he was treasurer of
the Democratic Party in Michi-
gan and assistant treasurer of
the Democratic National Com-
mittee.
The Levinsons were in the na-
tion's capital to attend the anni-
versary inaugural ball for Pres-
ident Kennedy.
The recognition shown Levin-
son on that occasion resulted
from two decades of communal
labors which earned for him
acclaim in educational, philan-
thropic and political quarters.
He has received numerous
local, national and interna-
tional hOnors and, in fad, is
regarded as one of Michigan's
most decorated men.

Levinson was a frequent guest
at the White House and he and
his_ wife were honored. by both
President Roosevelt and Pres-
ident Truman at White House
receptions:He was a member of
the General Inaugural Commit-
tee for President Kennedy in
1961.
Born in Philadelphia, Levin-
son is one of five brothers. His
father was a bookbinder in
Czarist Russia.
Levinson came to Detroit in
1935 as a representative for
typewriter companies. He en-
tered the residential building
business shortly after.
After building almost 500
homes, he was attracted to the
mortgage business with the crea-
tion of the Federal Housing Ad-
ministration. He was founder
and president of the Michigan
Mortgage Company from 1945-
58.
In 1958 Levinson received
an FHA charter for the Frank-
lin Mortgage Corporation of
which he is owner and presi-
dent. He is a member of
Detroit proclaimed Sept. 27,
1955, as "Benjamin Levinson
Day" on the occasion of his
50th birthday.
He is active in many civic
activities. He is a trustee of the
National Jewish Hospital at Den-
ver and has a record of enlist-
ing more members than any
other member of the national
board.
