News has been received here
of the death last week in New
York of the internationally fa-
mous architect Professor Alexan-
der Klein at the age of 82.
He was a professor emeritus
at the Technion, Israel Institute
of Technology, where he served
as professor of Architecture and
Town Planning until his retire-
ment in 1955.
In Israel he was noted as the
father of the master plan for
Technion City and of the build-
ing of the Faculty of Electrical
Engineering there. He also plan-
ned the garden city of Tivon,
near Haifa, which made him an
honorary citizen.
Klein was born in Russia in
1879 and studied architecture at
the Institute of Technology in
St.. Petersburg. In 1906 he was
awarded first prize in the com-
petition for the municipal hos-
pital in St. Petersburg of which
he subsequently became the chief
architect. He proceeded to build
settlements, community centers
and other projects in various
parts of Russia, but following
the political upheaval in that
country left in 1920, settling in
Berlin.
Here he designed a number
of major housing projects and
continued his valuable research
work in housing plans. . When
Hitler came to power, Klein's
career was again interrupted and
he came to Israel. He was ap-
pointed Town Planning Advisor
to the Jewish National Fund and
shortly thereafter assumed an
appointment as professor at the
Technion.

Urge Rejection of
Permit to Rockwell

Millions of Jews, Negroes,
Puerto Ricans and other na-
tionalities living in New York
City would suffer a "mortal in-
sult and disgraceful affront" if
the leader of the American
Nazi Party, George Lincoln
Rockwell, were granted a per-
mit to speak April 20th on
Union -Square, the Jewish Cul-
tural Clubs and Societies de-
clared here.
Sonia Schechter, president of
the clubs said that Rockwell
advocates the most gruesome,
almost incomprehensible crimes
known to man—the murder of
millions of people; he makes
outright unabashed threats to
repeat the -extermination of six
millions Jews . . ." as- was done
by the Nazis.
On Jan. 11, Rockwell told an
interviewer for a national press
agency that "we advocate send-
ing traitors to the gas chambers.
About 80 per cent of adult Jews
are Communist or Zionists —
which means they are traitors."

TEL AVIV, (JTA) — Plans
for 22 organized groups of Is-
raelis to tour the Soviet Union
this summer were announced
as thousands of Israeli Jews
completed weekend prayers for
the welfare of Russian Jews.
The travel plans were ar-
ranged in an agreement be-
tween an Israel travel agency
and Intourist, the official Rus-
sian Tourist Agency.
The Israelis will be allowed
to visit the larger Russian
cities, including Moscow, Lenin-
grad, Riga, Charkow, Kiev,
Czernovitz and Samarkand, as
well as Black Sea recreation
centers. It was reported, how-
ever, that very few Russians
