On Thursday, Mrs. Rose M.
Cowan, a pioneer leader in war
veterans' ranks, was accorded
the highest honor that can go
to a woman in veterans' ranks.
At public ceremonies that
took place last night at Vet-
erans Memorial Building on
Jefferson, Mrs. Cowan was in-
stalled as president of the
Ladies' Auxiliary to the Allied
Veterans Council of Wayne
Council. This council includes
the AmeriCan Legion, Veterans
of Foreign Wars, Jewish War
Veterans and 10 other veterans'
organizations.
A past president of the De-
partment of Michigan Jewish
War Veterans Ladies' Auxiliary,
Mrs. Cowan is among the most
active JWV leaders. She is now
participating actively in pre-
parations for the JWV national
convention to be held here in
August. U.S. Attorney Law-
rence Bubow is chairman of
the JWV convention committee.

— the occasion being the
crucial game between the Jew-
ish Center Basketball Team and
the -leaders in the Pistons Knot-
Hole League, the Southgate
Lions Club, which was the only
team to beat the Center players

Cobo Hall for this game, pre-

A $5,000 Israel Bond purchase to open the 1962 Bond
campaign was announced this week by the Zionist Organiza-
tion of Detroit. The ZOD is one of the leading Israel Bond
purchasers among organizations in Detroit, having made Bond
purchases of $7,000 in 1961 and $9,400 in 1960, for a total of
$21,400, including this week's purchase. Shown presenting the
