LOUIS M. ELLIMAN

Louis M.- Elliman, well known
Detroiter, a native of Ireland,
who has aided many causes in
this as well as in the land of his
birth, this week announced a gift
of $20,000 to the Jewish National
Fund for the planting of a Forest
in Israel in memory of his father,
Jacob Max Elliman, and in honor
of his mother, Rina Elliman, and
his family in Dublin, Ireland.
Elliman's father was an asso-
ciate of Dr. Theodor Herzl, whom
he met at the Fifth World Zionist
Congress in Basle, Switzerland, in
1901, when he represented Dub-
lin at the international gathering.
The late Jacob M. Elliman was
for many years president of the
Jewish National Fund of Ireland.
Louis Elliman's mother, who will
be 95 on her next birthday, is to
this day among the active JNF
workers in Dublin. (The story of
Elliman's parents' Zionist and
JNF interests appeared in The
Jewish News on Dec. 22, 1961).

Announcement of the Elli-
man gift for the planting of the .
Forest in Israel was made by
William Hordes and Rabbi
Joshua S. Sperka, chairman and
secretary of the JNF Founda-
tion, the branch of the JNF
that encourages legacies and
special projects in Israel.

In a message confirming the
agreement for the planting of the
forest, addressed to Rabbi Sperka,
Elliman wrote:
"I am happy to send you here-
with the agreement duly execut-
ed by me, together with check
for $1,000 as the initial payment.
Annual remittances of $1,000 will
be made by me during my life-
time, until a total of $20,000 has
been paid, as stipulated in the
agreement. If I shall pass away
before the full $20,000 has been
paid, the unpaid balance will be
a proper claim against my estate.

Brinkman said the publicat-
