mander of Jerusalem, will be
featured speaker at the na-
tional inaugural dinner of the
United Jewish Appeal, Sunday,
Feb. 11, at the Waldorf-Astoria,
New York, it has been an-
nounced by Joseph Meyerhoff,
UJA general chairman.
The dinner, which will mark
the official opening of the 1962
national cam-
paign, replaces
the traditional
UJA national
conference
held annually
in Miami
which served
as a target
date for the
solicitation
and announce-
ment of ad-
vance large
gifts by com-
munity repre-
sentatives and
individuals.
Another
highlight at
Brig. Gen. Herzog the dinner will
be the presentation of special
UJA awards to leaders of com-
munity campaigns in various
parts of the country.

Jewish Teachers
Seminary Moves to
New Quarters in N.Y.

The Jewish Teachers Semin-
ary and People's University on
Jan. 9 moved to newer and
larger quarters at 515 Park
Avenue, New York.
Meyer L. Brown is president
of the Seminary.
Participants in the transfer
ceremony included Jacob Potof-
sky, president of the Amalgam-
ated Clothing Workers of Amer-
ica; Dr. Jacob I. Harstein, dean
of the Graduate School of Edu-
cation of Long Island Univer-
sity; Dr. Mordecai Kaplan, pro-
fessor of Homiletics at the Jew-
ish Theological Seminary of
America and founder of the
Jewish Reconstruction Move-
ment; and Dr. Gershon Winer,
dean of the Seminary.
The Jewish Teachers Semin-
ary and People's University in-
cludes the only tri-lingual Jew-
ish teachers training institute
in the United States. Founded
on the lower East side of Man-
hattan in 1918 to train teachers
for Jewish schools and to dis-
seminate Jewish culture, the in-
stitution has successfully occu-
pied various quarters, including
the old Hias Building on Lafay-
ette St., a building on E. 70th
St. and now its permanent new
home at 515 Park Ave.
In its 44 years of existence,
it has graduated many hun-
dreds of teachers and Jewish
professionals who are now
serving the Jewish community
throughout the United States
and Canada and in many other
parts of the world.

the new school building, 15400
W. Ten Mile.
Fortgang, who spent two years
as chief engineer of an auto-
mobile firm in India, will lecture
and show slides of the country.
Refreshments will be served.
The public is invited to at-
tend "An Afternoon of Fun,"
starring "Doe-Doe the -Clown,"
on Sunday at the Young Israel
of Oak-Woods, 24061 Coolidge.
