"Can Israel Exist Without
Histadrut?" will be the subject
of a talk to be delivered at the
first Campaign Council meeting
by Dr. ,Noah Lucatz, noted au-
thor and lecturer, Sunday morn-
ing, in Room 111 of the Labor
Zionist Institute. Breakfast will
be served promptly at 10:30
a.m.

University
From 1953 to
1957 he served
with the His-

tadrut execu-
tive in Israel as international
secretary and in this capacity
shared in the development of
Histadrut's relations with Asian
and African labOr movements.
He is the author of several
books, including "Cooperation
in Israel" and "Histadrut in Is-
rael." He is presently on leave
from the Histadrut as an ex-
change visitor in this country.
He received his Ph.D. from
Washington University in St.
Louis in 1961 and is presently
teaching at Southern Iillinois
University while continuing re-
search on Histadrut.
Individuals attending are ex-
pected to complete as much of
their personal assignments as
possible and bring returns to
this meeting.

Local Pioneer Women
on Histadrut Campaign

by Mrs. Ruth C. Faine, head of
the Histadrut Tours Department
of the American Travel Associa-
tion of New
York, at a tea
given in honor
of Pioneer
Women at the
Morris L. Sch-
aver Auditor-
ium yesterday,
Mrs. Paine had
been invited to
come to De-
troit as the
guest of the
Mrs. Faine
Detroit Israel Histadrut Cam-
paign.
The meeting was chaired by
Mrs. Nathan Glenner, chairman
of the Pioneer Women's division
of the Histadrut Campaign. Mrs.
Norman Leemon, Pioneer
Women Council president, ex-
tended greetings, and Mrs. Chana
Michlin, vice-chairman of the
Histadrut Campaign, brought
greetings on behalf of the cam-
paign.
January is traditionally Hist-
adrut month for Pioneer Women.
This year the organization is
looking for greater participation
of its membership in the cam-
paign. Pioneer Women's fund-
raising effort for Histadrut is an
added tool for raising funds for
the Moetzet Hapoalot quota.

sponded enthusiastically to the
call for action in the current
fund-raising effort.
Chairman of the evening Sid-
ney Shevitz paid tribute to Mor-
ris Lieberman, chairman of the
Detroit Histadrut Campaign, for
his leadership of the campaign
for many years. Shevitz special
pride in introducing the guest
speaker, Ben Zion Ilan, Mapai's
deputy secretary general in Is-
real, who also is his brother-
in-law. Ilan, an American cha-
lutZ who settled in Israel nearly
30 years ago, one of the out-
standing leaders of the Israel
labor movement, has made a
distinguished record in the
fields of youth leadership, pio-
neering settlement. defense and
political action. He is a member
of Kibbutz Afikim and repre-
sents the kibbutz sector in Ma-
pai, the Israel labor party
headed by David Ben Gurion.

In his address Ilan stated
that man has not yet devised
instruments which can meas-
ure when, how many an

will come to the shores of
Israel. He stressed the work
of Israel's youth who will be-
come its leaders of tomorrow
and carry the full responsi-
bility for its security and up-
building. "Can the new immi-
grant," he asked, "be fully
integrated into the social
framework of the country?"

Summer Camp
Program in July

The Israel Histadrut Cam-
paign has announced the spon-
sorship of a seven-week Sum-
mer Camp program in Israel for
American and Canadian boys
and girls between the ages of
13 and 18.
The summer camp, non-profit,
educational project council of
Histadrut in Israel, will open in
July, 1962, at the village of
Kfar Hayarok near Tel Aviv.
