A 52-member delegation rep-
resenting 3,170 young contri-
butors to the Jewish Welfare
Federation's annual Allied Jew-
ish Campaign called on Isidore
Sobeloff, executive vice-presi-
dent, at the organization's of-
fices in the Butzel Memorial
Blinding, 163 Madison, last
week.
The delegates were members
of the United- Hebrew Schools'
Keren Ami (student council)
and ranged in age, from 7 to
14.
Officially, they were to pre-
sent a check in the amount of
$1,800 that was contributed to
the 1961 Allied Jewish Cam-
paign in- nickels and dimes by
students in the Hebrew Schools'
10 branches. Ben Rosen, 11,
presented the check to Barry
Yaker, 26, Federation Junior
Division gifts chairman. Fred
H. Keidan, 30, is Junior Division
president.
The major reason for the
visit was to ask some questions
about the Federation and its
agencies and services. Each
delegate came armed with pad
and pencil to get information
for his or her classmates.
Sobeloff, Keidan and Yaker
joined the delegates in refresh-
ments, and the delegates toured
the t h r e e-s t o r y Federation
building.
The visit and answers must
have impressed them, because
before they boarded busses to
return to their schools, the
youngsters promised Keidan
the Keren Ami would contri-
bute at least $2,000 in 1962.
J. M. Mathis is- director of
the Keren Ami Council. Mrs.
Esther Appleman is director of
the Federation Junior Division.

Assets, Savings Jump
at Standard Federal
Savings and Loan

"A year of substantial progress
in every phase of operation," was
the way Walter J. L. Ray, presi-
dent of Standard Federal Savings
and Loan Association, character-
ized 1961 in a year-end state-
ment.
Now at an all-time high of
$194,566,000, Standard Federal
assets were increased by $17,000,-
000 during 1961, according to the
137th semi-annual statement of
condition now being mailed to
savers and borrowers. Savings
increased by $14,700,000 in 1961
to a record high of $175,000,000.
The number of mortgages orig-
inated by the Association during
the past year, Ray pointed out,
was one of the largest in Standard
Federal's 68 year history. Their
total value was more than $33,-
000,000 .The number (2400), and
dollar volume of the mortgages
written by Standard Federal
again made the Association the
largest home mortgage lender- in
Wayne County in 1961.
On Jan. 1, Standard Federal
increased its dividend rate from
31/2% to 4%, payable quarterly.
