Deutsch Shows
Savings Assn's
Social Service

"Advances in preventive med-
icine, health care and social
consciousness have had a pro-
found effect on housing needs,"
says Adolph Deutsch, president
of -American Savings and Loan
Association. "As a result, De-
troit and other major metro-
politan areas are confronted
with the ur-
gency of de-
veloping n e w
housing needs
rapidly and
economically.
Fortunately,
Detroit -savings
and loan asso-
ciations have
been watchful
and are gear-
Deutsch ed to meet
the new trend."
"In 1962, the savings and loan
industry will make an impor-•
tant contribution towards this
new direction of housing devel-
opment in the Detroit area,"
Deutsch . said. "Finer housing
facilities will help attract new
businesses to our city which will
provide new jobs for Detroit
workers. New buildings absorb
construction workers while
being built and maintenance
workers after they are com-
pleted. The new higher rate of
earnings which American
Savings and many of the savings
and loan associations are now
paying will help keep the
savings of Detroiters in this
area, so that these funds can
be used for the economic
growth of our city."
Deutsch predicts that 1962
will be a year of high auto-
motive production, and that
Detroit employees in the auto
and relate -I industries will enjoy
a full week's pay and even some
overtime.
Deutsch reported that assets
of American Savings and Loan
soared to $117,371,647.73 in
1961, an increase of more than
$9 million, making it the best
year in the institution's history.
The Association paid dividends
of $3,311,320.67 to more than
61,000 account holders.
The Association's statement
of condition, as of Dec. 31,
shows savings accounts have in-
creased to $103,404,421.96, a
gain of $8,192,032.44 during the
past 12 months. Reserves have
been boosted to $7,437,478.24.
