Local 30, United Bakery & Confectionery Workers, AFL-
CIO, has made the second largest trade union purchase of an
Israel Bond during 1961. Louis E. Levitan (left), Detroit Israel
Bond Campaign manager, receives a check for $25,000 from
Earl Wolfman, business manager of the small local, who is
also a brother-in-law of Walter P. Reuther, UAW president.
Wolfman said the $25,000 Israel Bond purchase was made
through the Local 30 retirement trust fund. The 3,000-member
local previously bought $10,000 in Israel Bonds at a testimonial
dinner for Reuther.

NEW YORK — A total of
1,357 persons from the United

States and Canada migrated to
Israel during 1961, the Jewish
Agency office in New York
City announced Tuesday.
The 1961 total represents an
increase of 400 immigrants over
the 1960 figure.
The Jewish Agency said that
the greatest increase in the
number of American immi-
grants was in the category of
professionals who were pro ,
cessed by the Office of Profes-
sional and Technical Immigra-
tion which sent 311 immigrants
to Israel in 1961, compared with
152 in 1960.
Newcomers in the other
categories were 135 pioneers
from the various Zionist youth
groups, 1'71 immigrants who
went to Ulpanim in Israel and
142 retired persons. The re-
maining categories included
middle class immigrants and
members of Hassidic groups.
