Itoppopirmomop, `Jewish Community of Tomorrow' to Be Discussed by Adler, Franck Rabbi Morris Adler, Commu- nity Council vice president, and Isaac Franck, executive director of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington, will be the participants in a dialogue discussion of "The Jewish Com- munity of Tomorrow" at the next delegate assembly of the Council, Jan. 17, 8:15 p.m., at Temple Israel. The discussion will focus upon the emerging patterns of the American Jewish community and their implications for the future. Trends affecting Jewish organiza- tional activity will be examined. Mrs. Philip Bernstein, chairman of the Council's delegate assem- bly planning committee, stated that the subject was selected to fit the season's overall theme for assembly programming, "A New Look at the Community." From 1940 to 1946, Franck was the director of the Detroit Jewish Community Council, and had served as educational director of the Jewish Center here. He has studied at Washington Square College, Harvard,__ University of Michigan and Columbia. In addi- tion to his duties as director of the Washington Council, he is a lecturer at American University and has served on advisory pan- els of the State Department. In 1957, he made study - tours of West Germany and Israel as the guest of the respective govern- ments of these countries. The business portion of the assembly will feature reports on the Council's current activities '61 Torch Drive Breaks Records Detroit and 99 adjacent com- munities in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties contrib- uted an unprecedented $19,030,- 000 to the 1961 Torch Drive. The new figure, suprpassing even the record-shattering $18,- 945,681 announced last Novem- ber 9 at the end of the annual 23-day campaign. was disclosed in a joint statement issued by William M. Day, president, and Walter C. Laidlaw, executive vice president, of the United Jewish Foundation. A study of figures compiled during the drive revealed that the number of contributors to the 1961 campaign was actually smaller than in some former Torch Drives. "The greater total was due to the generosity of contributors and to excellent leadership, headed by Max M. Fisher," Day and Laidlaw said. If you find life is empty, try putting something into it.
