Israel Seeks Ban on German Relations By NATHAN ZIPRIN Editor, Seven Arts Feature Syndicate Signs of the Times On Dec. 3, 1928, the American Jewish Committee leader Louis Marshall wrote of Yeshiva College: "I have been absolutely opposed from the very beginning to the creation of such a college. It is destined to failure and is sure to do much harm to the best interests of Jews in America." On Nov. 21, 1961, another American Jewish Committee president, Louis Caplan, wrote: "The work of Yeshiva University in its 75th year history has greatly enriched the American Jewish religious and cultural scene: It has played a significant role in achieving the in which Judaism is held in the United States." Caplan's views truly reflect the rising tide in ante of yeshivoth and their related institutions. The word "yeshiva" over the centuries hel as Yavneh an on the Jewish imagination. TEL AVIV (JTA)—An inter- Ministerial committee has been set up by the Israeli Cabinet to curb social and cultural re- lations between Israel and West Germany. The decision followed politi- cal arguments which developed from -contacts between individ- uals of the two countries, par- ticularly a visit by an Israeli teachers'. delegation to West Germany. Among the plans understood to be ready for implementation by the Cabinet committee are a ban on allocations of foreign ex- change for studies by young Is- raelis in West Germany and on acceptance of scholarships for such studies. Another restriction will bar older students from going to West German advanced schools or technology institutions, un- less their work is vital to Israel and they cannot get training elsewhere in their fields. A ban will be applied to ex- changes of artists and against creation in Israel of branches of West German societies. Vis- itors • from West Germany will have to pass a screening to de- termine whether they were for- mer Nazis. WAS NGTO , ( A Plans initiate a Hille ca m at th Techn n-I ute of. Report Nazi Victims Still Suffering from Emotional Disorders NEW YORK, (JTA)—Former inmates of Nazi concentration camps are still suffering. from emotional and physical disorders directly attributable to their camp experiences, it was reported here by Medical Tribune, an authori- tative medical weekly. This fact, reversing previous medical opinion, has been estab- lished by a team of 10 Norwegian 'specialists, the medical organ said. The Norwegians examined 100 former camp prisoners and found 96 of them suffering from memory impairment, tendency to fatigue, difficulty in concentrat- ing, emotional instability, sleep disorders and headaches. As a direct result of these find- ings, Medical Tribune reported, the World Veterans Federation, which co-sponsored the Norwe- gian study, has called a world conference at The Hague to deal with "delayed effects of concen- tration camp imprisonment."
