Reform Rabbis Hope for 1962 Bomb Ban

NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
Central Conference of Ameri-
can Rabbis, representing the
American Ref or m rabbinate,
urged in a year-end statement
that -the people of the United
States should not "succumb to
the feeling that war is inevita-
ble."
The statement also asked
Americans to beware of the
idea that the search for peace
was "synonymous with appease-
ment."

DAYENU

Rabbi Albert G. Minda of
Minneapolis, president of the
CCAR, rebuked the Soviet Un-
ion in the statement for its
"brazen" rupture of the mora-
torium on nuclear testing and
its resumption of nuclear test-
ing in the atmosphere in Sep-
tember and October.
The statement expressed hope
that 1962 will bring progress
toward a "complete internation-
al ban on the testing and use of
nuclear weapons."
