Servatius Tells Casper Cutler
Eichinann 'Had a Fair Trial'

Casper C. Cutler, attorney,
who attended a number of ses-
sions of the Eiehmann trial and
reported on his experiences at
length in an article in the De-
troit Lawyer magazine, has re-
ceived many commendatory com-
munications from leaders in
Michigan and other states, from
Israel and from Eichmann's de-
fense attorney Dr. Robert Ser-
vatius.
Servatius, in a long communi-
cation to Cutler, emphasized "the
lesson which the world should
learn" from the trial.
He declared, in a letter he
wrote from Cologne, that "the
defendant had a fair trial."
Servatius wrote to Cutler in
part:
"There was no Israeli col-
league in the defense.
. "I was forced to send my only
assistant to Germany to obtain
affidavits, so that for four weeks
during the direct examination of
the defendant I was alone.
"During the cross-examination
of the defendant I was able to
make objections if I wished and
I did ,do so.

"During the cross-examination
I was not permitted to confer
with the defendant about the
remarks of the Israeli prosecutor.
Nothing unusual developed, so
I did not have to ask for a court
ruling as to this matter.
"The defendant had a fair
trial. The hardest part of the
trial lay in the fact that no
defense witnesses appeared,
some because they could not and
some because they would not."
Israel's Attorney General Gid-
eon Hausner was among those
who wrote Cutler commenting on
his article.
The Detroit attorney received
messages from Florida, Califor-
nia, Ohio and Massachusetts. A
number of local and national
jurists were among those who
commended Cutler's report.
