The rabbi is Rabbi Brickner
the newly-appointed _director of
the Joint Commission on Inter-
faith Activities of the Union of
American Hebrew Con,gegations
and' the Central Conference of
American Rabbis. He is also as-
sociate director of the Commis-
sion of Social Action of Reform
Judaism.
A native of Cleveland, 0.,
Rabbi Brickner was rabbi of
Temple Sinai in Washington,
D.C., from 1952 until 1961. He
also is the former director of
the Bnai Brith Hillel Foundation
at the University of Cincinnati.
Writer, educator and civic
leader, Rabbi Brickner is the
author of "As Driven Sands," a
study of the Arab refugee situa-
tion, a work for which he was
commissioned by the Commis-
sion on Social Action. While in
Washington, as spiritual leader
of • Temple Sinai, he was the
Jewish Chautauqua Society res-
ident lecturer at The American
University. He now resides in
New York.
Temple Emanu-El dates its
emergence in 1951 wih the
rapidly expanding Jewish - com-
munities in the suburbs — Oak
Park and Huntington Woods. Its
membership has increased from
300 families in its first year to
500 families at the present time.
It is now the third largest Re-
form Jewish congregation in
Michigan, under the spiritual
leadership of Rabbi . Milton Ros-
enbaum.
Its religious school today pro-
vides for the Jewish education of
775 children, with Max Rosen-
berg as education director, and
a staff of 30 professional teach-
ers. Special sections of the He-
brew school are conducted under
the auspices of the United He-

Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood
enjoys a membership of 300 un-
der the leadership of Mrs. Ber-
tram Kaatz. The Men's Club,
which rivals the Sisterhood in
membership, is led by Max Fo-
gelman. Don Epstein guides the
Temple Youth Group.

Council Tour Set by
Keren Ami Officers

A tour of the Jewish Commu-
nity Council, 163 Madison, is
scheduled for the senior Keren
Ami officers of the elementary
classes of the United Hebrew
School for next Friday, Dec. 29.
A noon luncheon at the
Esther Berman branch of the
UHS will precede the trip.
- Students guests will hear bud
geting problems of the Allied
Jewish Campaign, and a ques-
tion-answer period will follow.
Council staff will accompany the
students on their tour of the
Federation agencies.
Keren Ami is the student arm
of the Allied Jewish Campaign,
through which youngsters con-
tribute to Jewish causes, locally,
nationally and internationally.

Temple Israel Holds
Homecoming Sabbath

Temple Israel college youth
will celebrate a Homecoming
Sabbath tonight. The students,
home on vacation, will be the
guests of the Sisterhood -and
Men's Club of the Temple at a
dinner prior to the evening
