Israeli Ceramic,
Glass Industries

For many years there exists in
Israel a glass industry. In the past
they brought the special necessary
sand from the glass industry from
abroad. But today it is possible to
drink a glass of tea from a glass
that is completely made in the
country. Also the special clay for the
making of ceramics is found in the
country, and it is possible to buy a
nice cup for coffee of Israeli earthen-
ware that is made from day from the
lairs of the Negev, made by expert
workmen and specialists working in
the ceramic industry.
If you will travel today throng!'
the oasts stretches of southern Negev
there will uncover before you beauti
ful scenes of various sands and clays,
and if you will feel with your hands,
you will conceive immediately that
a great treasure is before you.
The company (known as) "Clay and
Clear Sand in the Negev," that was
founded in Israel in the year of 1953,
steadily investigates, the possibility of
the utilization of this great natural
treasure for the ceramic and glass
industries in Israel and also for ex-
port abroad. To the credit of the
activities of this company the import
of raw materials necessary for these
industries has almost completely
ceased. Clay and clear sand of the
Israeli Negev reaches various coun-
tries in Europe and Far East as an
exoprt merchandise of Israel.
The development works of this com-
pany are done with the help of the
government of Israel, that in its
hands are 51 per cent of the shares of
the company, that are showing , a
great interest in the establishment
that promises a lot for the develop-
ment of the Negev.
