Samuel G. Keywell, head of several imporant steel corpora- tions, died Monday in Miami Beach. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the new Kaufman Chapel on W. 9 Mile Road. He is survived by his wife, Faye; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Wolf; three brothers, Henry. Jonas and Barney L.; two sis- ters, Mrs. Mary Marx and Mrs. George Lowell, and two grand- soni. He was chairman of the board of the Samuel G. Keywell Co., Inc., president of Hancock Steel Co. and secretary of the Towne Robinson Fastener Co. Mr. Keywell had many com- munal affiliations here and in Florida. He was a member of Temple Beth El, Perfection Lodge F. & A. M., Consistory, Shrine, Knollwood Country Club, Young Israel, and was a member of the board of the Jewish Home for Aged and a life member of Brandeis Uni- versity Associates. Mr. Keywell was a trustee and founder of Sinai Hospital in Miami and was a member of Miami's Westview Country Club and Standard Club. He was treasurer emeritus and board member of the Iron and Steel Institute and a past president of its Detroit chapter. During the last war he was a member of the OPA scrap divi- sion. National Jewish Welfare Board's fund-raising di- vision, died Dec. 3 in his New York home. He was 52. An attorney who received a master's degree in social work from Yeshiva University School of Social Work, Steinberg was also treasurer of the New York City Adult Education Council, and was a consultant to the Sen- ior Citizens Council of the New York Section of the Jewish Wel- fare Board. Samuel Zemurray, the former president of United Fruit Com- pany who lived to see the story of his career become legend, died Dec. 1 in New Orleans at 84. A Russian immigrant who came to this country in 1892, he got his start peddling bananas in Alabama. "Sam the Banana Man," as he was called then, could boast of $100,000 in the bank when he was 20.
