Harlem, New Jersey
Youth Exchange Aid

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J., (JTA)
—A dozen • Puerto Rican and
Negro teenagers from East Har-
lem repaid a group of the Sub-
urban YM-YWHA of South Or-
ange in an exchange of unpaid
assistance.
Last April, the Y members
went to East Harlem to scrub
walls of the James' Weldon
Johnson Community Center and
re-arrange the arts and crafts
room at the center. '
The helping hand was return-
ed by the East Harlem youths
who joined with a dozen Jewish
young people from South Orange
to put recreation equipment in
the Y rooms in first class condi-
tion.
The rooms -are located in the
basement of Congregation Beth
El. Driven to South Orange by
volunteers, the East Harlem
young people were greeted by
signs of "Buenos Dias" and
"Shalom." -
The inter-religious and inter-
racial mutual aid program ended
with a meal of kosher frankfur-
ters, knishes and sweet noodle
pudding, all cooked in Jewish
style by young hostesses.

Israel Immigrarit Doctors
Receive Fast Integration

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — More
than 86 per cent of the 1,300 phy-
sicians who came to Israel as im-
migrants between January 1957
and October 1961 have been suc-
cessfully integrated into medical
practice, Deputy Health Minister
Yitzhak Rafael disclosed here.
Rafael, replying in Israel's
Parliament to a question on what
the government did to facilitate
the absorption of immigrant doc-
tors, said that all but 180 of the
immigrant physicians were em-
ployed by hospitals and clinics
or were engaged in private prac-
tice.
He noted that the Health Min-
istry had set up a special fund
to tide over immigrant doctors
until they became integrated into
the profession in Israel. Rafael
said that additional openings for
physicians would be available at
new government institutions after
April.
