DR. SAMUEL BELKIN,

president of Yeshiva Univer-
sity, will mark his 50th birth-
day coincidentally with the
university's 75th anniversary
dinner on Sunday, Dec. 10.
Since assuming the presi-
dency in 1943, Dr. Belkin has
distinguished himself as a
scholar, author and educator,
and directed the institution's
greatest growth—from four
schools to 17; enrollment has
leaped from 850 to 5,000, the
faculty from 94 to 1,200, and
the number of teaching cen-
ters from one to six. The
above portrait of Dr. Belkin
was recently executed by
Irwin Hoffman. Yeshiva Uni-
versity, America's oldest and
largest university under Jew-
ish auspices, is celebrating its
75th anniversary throughout
the current academic year
with a series of events, in-
cluding symposia, confer-
ences, convocations and as-
semblies. Pres. John F. Ken-
nedy is honorary chairman
of the observance and Joseph
M. Mazer, New York indus-
