One of the strongest messages
of indignation sent to the Coun-
cil was by Dr. Aaron Dubnove,
prominent Detroit physician and
distinguished Hebrew scholar.
Dr. Dubnove called attention
to the parallel efforts for free-
dom by the Irish, to the appeals
made in behalf of. Israel Bonds
by Dublin's Mayor Robert Briscoe
who repudiated the Council's
claims and to prophecies and
Biblical lore which pointed to
Israel's rebirth. He wrote to the
Council:
"You maintain, in a modern
democratic state anti-Semitism
should be combatted and not fled.
The German Fuehrer called his
regime a modern Nazi democra-
cy; so does Nasser and those
behind the Iron Curtain. What
chance did the German Jews have
to combat his anti-Semitism?
