II NEWS — Friday, November 24, 1961

"Eternal Life," by Rabbi Joshua
S. Sperka, a volume that attract-
ed wide attention several years
ago, has just been re-issued by
Bloch Publish-
ing Co. of New
York in an en-
larged and re-
vised edition.
Containing a
digest of Jew,

Rabbi Sp erk a
has incorporat-

ume complete Joshua Sperka
funeral and monument unveiling
services, as well as the El Molei,
Kaddish and Yizkor in Hebrew,
transliteration and translation.
To assist the mourners who
secure this volume, he also has
included in the book 25 year cal-
endars and schedules for yahr-
zeits and Yizkor.
In the new edition, Rabbi
Sperka has included a chapter
on "Psychiatry and Mourning,"
to show "how psychiatry accen-
tuates the validity of our his-
toric rituals and prescribes
them as healthy patterns of
conduct in time of mourning."
Resorting to testimony of phy-
sicians, Rabbi Sperka asserts that
"to avoid normal expression of
grief, to repress one's emotional
reaction, to deny expression of
the natural pain of bereavement
is not only against religious law,
it is also against sound psycho-
logical practice."
There are prayers, and guiding
rules, for people in failing health,
in the opening chapter of this
book.
_ Enhancing the value of this
interesting book is the inclu-
sion in it of many' selections—
