The three-day event will begin Saturday evening and run through Monday night at the Meyers Road Center. Book Fair chairman this year will be Mrs. Arthur Rice. The opening program at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Aaron De Roy Theater will feature an introduction by Center Presi- Rachel Korn Dr. Scheyer dent Charles H. Gershenson. Mrs. Rice will make welcoming remarks. Topic of the evening will be "Writing the Modern Jewish 19th Jewish Book .Annual Published Publication of Volume 19 of the Jewish Book Annual was announced by Dr. A. Alan Seymour Epstein B. Z. Goldberg Steinbach, president of the Jewish Book Council of the Na- tional Jewish Welfare Board. The Jewish Book Annual, published by the Council as part of its year-round work of fostering interest in Jewish books, is one of a number of literary and program pieces issued in connection with the- coming national observance of Jewish Book Month, coordi- nated by the Council. The Jewish Book Annual Jason Tickton Edward Wallant opens with an essay on Hebrew book lore entitled "Of Ladies and Converts and Tomes" by Solomon Feffer. Dr. Shlomo Noble presents insights into "Yiddish Lexicography." Some recent works on the ethnology and folklore of various Jewish communities are • briefly re- viewed by the Israeli folklorist, Haim Schwarzbaum. Prof. Ezra Spicehandler has Gershenson Mrs. Rice contributed an essay on "The Sabra School of Israeli Novel- ists." Ephraim Auerbach treats with "Yiddish Writers in Is- rael." "Jewish Literature in Sweden and in Swedish" is sur- veyed for the first time in English by Dr. C. Jacobowsky. The tri-lingual, 218-page Jew-' ish Book Annual takes cog- nizance of a number of out- standing Jewish literary anni- versaries in a listing compiled by Rabbi Theodore Wiener. Epstein, author of "The Suc- cessor," is a partner in a New York advertising agency, but now devotes most of his time to writ- ing. Sunday's program will begin with two performances of "King Solomon and the Bee," by the Children's Dance Thea- ter of Washington, D.C. Admis- sion to the 2 and 3:30 p.m. per- formances i n t h e DeRoy Theater is by ticket. As a convenience for parents bringing their children along, the Youth Division will offer a baby sitting service from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, so that they will be free to browse and attend lectures. Kay Brittan and Moishe Last will be featured in a folk lore sing for teens from 4-5 p.m. in 384 Meyers Building. Evening activities will include a talk by Dr. Ernst Scheyer, Wayne State University art pro- fessor at 8 p.m. in 384 Meyers Building. His topic will be "The Development of Marc Chagall's Art." An exhibit of 106 Chagall etchings on Biblical themes will be one of the exhibits at the Fair. Scheyer is the author of books and magazine articles on art history. He will be intro- duced by Mrs. Oscar Schwartz. The annual Hebrew-Yiddish Night will also be held at 8 p.m. in the De Roy Theater. Fair Chairman Mrs. Rice will introduce Mrs. Morris Friedman, Yiddish-Hebrew Night chairman. Speakers will be Rachael Korn on "The Meaning of the Spoken Word," in Yiddish, and Morris Noble on "M. Shoham, A Modern Biblical Poet," in Hebrew. Miss Korn is a well known Yiddish poet, now living in Montreal. Noble is principal of the Bnai Moshe branch of United Hebrew Schools. Goldberg is editor of the New York Jewish Day-Morning Journal. He has made three ex- tensive visits to the Soviet Union. In addition to the Chagall works, other Book Fair exhibits will feature artcrafts from Israel, displays of Soviet Judaica and a comprehensive selection of Jewish books.
