Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel R.
Katz of Buffalo, N.Y., announce
the engagement of their daugh-
ter, Janie Ann, to Herbert Mor-
ton Polk, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Leo Polk of Mansfield Ave.
Miss Katz is a graduate of
Endicott Junior College, Bever-
ly, Mass., and is now attending
the University of Buffalo. Her
fiance is a graduate of Wayne
State University and is affiliated
with Kappa Nu fraternity. He is
presently working on his mas-
ter's degree at the University of
Buffalo.

Carpet Firm Offers
Clown to Perform for
Local Organizations

"Doe-Doe The Clown," a vet-
eran professional entertainer
Who has appeared hundreds of
times. before Detroit audiences,
will perform free of charge
under the sponsorship of a lo-
cal carpet cleaning firm.
In making the announcement,
Edgar Hagopian,.• general man-
ager of Hagopian &. Sons, 15180
West Eight Mile, commented
that his firm is Inderwriting the
offer as an experiment in com-
munity service.
"Doe-Doe The Clown" is avail-
able free to entertain such
groups as women's clubs, church
organizations, f r a tern al and
civic groUps, etc.
All that need be done is for
the club's entertainment chair-
man to write a letter to the
carpet cleaning firth stating the
date, time and place the appear-
ance of Doe-Doe The Clown is
desired. The nature of the
event and size of the group
should. also be reported.
The request, - on the club's
stationery, should- be addressed
to: Community Service Direc-
tor, Hagopian & Sons Carpet

size," said Hagopian, "that we
are doing this purely as a serv-

Sholem Aleichem Holds
Talk on U.S. Values

MID

Sholem Aleichem Institute
will hold a special Thanksgiving
Oneg-Shabbat at 9 p.m. Nov. 24.
Dr. Richard Miles, chairman of
the American Studies program
at Wayne State University, will
speak on "The Origin of Amer-
ican Values."
Miles is an authority on
American history before 1815.
He was a Fulbright lecturer in
American history at Madras Uni-
versity in South India during
the 1959-60 academic year.
The Institute will also spon-
sor an evening of music by one
of the country's few Balalaika
orchestras. The orchestra will
present Russian, Ukranian, Hun-
garian and Spanish folk music,
as well as Yiddish selections by
soprano-soloist M a 1 k e Sallen.

There is new hope for those
students who are weak in aca-
demic subjects. The Future
Teachers Club is now offering a
special tutoring service to any
student requiring it, The courses
are held VII, VIII, and IX hours
and cover mathematics, science,
English, foreign languages and
social studies.
Senior girls are again in pur-
suit of males on the loose as the
semi-annual Sadie Hawkins Day
Dance approaches. Dec. 1 has
been set aside for the dance,
which is only one of the activi-
ties that will culminate with
Graduation Day, Jan. 31.
The Capri, Mumford's award-
winning yearbook, is still wel-
coming advertisers and sub-
scribers. Like the Mercury,
Mumford's all-American news-
paper, the Capri is published
entirely by the students.
Thirty seniors were awarded
letters of commendation from
the Merit Schalarship Corpbra-
tion recently. The students were
classed in the 98th percentile
of the 800,000 students partici-
pating in the program.

Asher, Natalie Axelrod, Peter
Barnett, Jan B e r r i s, Steve
Brown, Margaret Burton, Re-
gina Chaney, Elaine Desow, Su-
san Dubrinsky, Steven Engel-
berg, Richard Goldman, Stanley

Holloway, Marilyn Kahan, Ste-
ven Kikoler, Sandra Leichtman,
Michael Mintz, Marshall Nathan,
Paul Robertson, Lynne Rotten-
berg, Gary Schneider, Marcia
Segall, Alan Serwer, Sim Sha-
piro, John Shout, Michael Sim-
ons, Michael Weinstein, Ronald
Weil, and Judy Wax.
The football team finished its
season with a 5-2-1 won-lost-tied
record to become Mumford's
first winning gridders in three
years. They capped the season
with a victory over Ford last
week, 13-0, in a __ non-league
game.
The girls' swimming team
won its last two meets to run
their string to three in a row.
The last victory came over
Hamtramck, 74-49.
The cross country team fin-
ished third in the city finals.
Senior Richard Smith was the
only Mustang harrier to win
All-City honors.
