Schools Women `Angel Ball' on Thanksgiving Eve
Hold Donor Event

The Women's Auxiliary of the
United Hebrew Schools will hold
its annual donor luncheon 12:30
p.m. Wednesday at Adas Shalom
Synagogue, • announces President
Mrs. Charles A. Smith.
Featured will be Marilyn Cot-
low, lyric coloratura, formerly of
the Metropolitan Opera Company.
Luncheon proceeds will be
used for camp scholarships, teach-
er training, implementation of
the school library and a project
which will send gifted students
to Israel for summer study, ac-
cording to Mrs. Mitchell Feld-
man, chairman of the luncheon.

. More than 900 "Angels" of the
Detroit Section, National Coun-
cil of Jewish Women, will be
feted at the organization's Sev-
enth Annual Angel Ball on the
Thanksgiving Eve of Nov. 22 at
Cobo Hall's Riverview Room.
"Angels" earned their tickets
by volunteering 150 hours of
service throughout the year or
by donating merchandise valued
at $150 to the Council Resale
Shop, the group's sole means
of raising 'funds for its social
service projects.
In charge of a committee of
30 planning the event are co-
chairmen Mesdames Sanford
Izner and William -Parnos.
Internationally, the organiza-
tion has granted scholarships to
graduate students and volunteer

Among Detroit Section proj-
ects are "Operation Friendship,"
a recreational lounge program
for convalescing mental patients;
A community workshop, which ob-
tains work contracts for older,
handicapped or untrained work-
ers; service to the foreign born
through English classes and citi-
zenship instruction; and the
"Children on Leave from Trou-
bled Parents" program, a resi-
dential facility for children in
need of counseling.

The Annual Artist Concert, to
be presented by the Club 8:30
p.m. Nov. 28 at the Detroit Insti-
tute of Arts, calls attention to
Mrs. Sauls' efforts. While she was
president in 1934, the two-fold
music program of scholarship
and Annual Artist Concert was
established. She has been chair-
man of the scholarship committee
from 1936 until the present.
This committee has expanded
from $20 to $25,000 to further
the music studies of talented
