Janner and Hector Hughes.
Britain's ratification of the
Genocide Convention, Sir Bar-

ROBERT BRISCOE .

18 dinner, announces that the
event will take the form of a
tribute to Israel Prime Minis-
ter David Beri-Gurion, on his
75th birthday.
Reservations for the dinner
are being taken at the Israel
Bond office, DI 1-5707. Dietary
laws will be observed. The
complete dinner program will
be announced next week.
A number of Irish-American
groups are planning to partici-
pate in a welcome to Lord
Mayor Briscoe and a number
of dignitaries are expected to
attend, including: Mayor Louis
C. Miriani, U. S. Senators Pat-
rick V. McNamara and Philip
A. Hart and Councilmen
Edward Connor and Ed Carey.
Lord Mayor Briscoe has been
one of Ireland's outstanding
laeders. He played a foremost
part in the struggles that
brought about Ireland's free-
dom.
Dublin's Jewish mayor has
been actively interested for
many years in the creation and
development of the State of
Israel. He is an ardent Zionist
and has been closely identified
with all phases of Jewish life
in Ireland, particularly with
the Orthodox Jewish religious
institutions. He has been a key
leader in the Israel Bond cam-
paign in Ireland ever since its
inauguration.
Briscoe's first election as
Lord Mayor in 1957 came as

CASABLANCA, (JTA)—The
Istiqlal (Independence) Party,
dominent party in Morocco, has
accused the Jewish community
of Tetuan, northern Morocco,
of having established a syna-
gogue and asserted that the
synagogue "is, in fact, a bureau
for Zionist meetings."
Al Alam, the party's organ,
charged that the house of wor-
ship was opened without per-
mission from the authorities.
"Moroccan authorities should
take the initiative of investigat-
ing this synagogue. We once
more charge that the question
of Jewish religion is being
mingled with Zionism," the ar-
ticle said.

Israel Rabbinate Ends
Ban on Marriages. with
Jewish Tribe in' India

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — The
Chief Rabbinate Council has
announced a decision ending all
restrictions which for hundreds
of years barred- Jews from
marrying members of India's
Bene Israel community.
The decision resolves a con-
troversial issue of several hun-
dred years existence which
erupted recently in charges
that members of Bene Israel
who have settled in Israel were
not permitted to marry Israeli
Jews. About 5,000 of the 30,000
Bene Israel Jews have come to
Israel since the state was
established.
The Chief Rabbinate Council
has been debating the issue
and the decision climaxed sev-
eral years of study. Israeli rab-
binical objections to such mar-
riage stemmed from the conten-
tion that Bene Israel religious
marriage and divorce laws dif-
fered from_those generally prac-
ticed among Jews.
