"Mr. JNF" will make- his last
official visit to Detroit as Execu-
tive Director of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund when he comes here
to address the annual all-day
Conference on Sunday, Novem-
ber 5.
"Mr. JNF," of course, is Men-
del Fisher, the brilliant and
fiery head of the Jewish Nation-
al Fund, who is retiring from
his position of leadership at the
end of the year, after 27 years
with the movement.
A Zionist since the early days
of his youth, Fisher, a former
journalist, is National Secretary
of the United Palestine Appdal
and served as a former co-direc-
tor of the UPA. During his in-
cumbency as Executive Director
of JNF, over $150,000,000 has
been mobilized for the redemp-
tion of land in Israel.

Cost _of the project is esti-
mated at $250,000,000. When it
is completed, it will radically
change the face of Israel, pro-
viding homes and shares of land
'for 100,000 new families, nuns_
bering some 500,000 people.

The JNF, for 60 years the
popular fund of the Jewish peo-
ple, served to unify Jewish
ranks throughout the world in
behalf of land redemption in
Israel.

Thanks to the JNF, hundreds
of little villages have been estab-
lished, first in the Jewish Na-
tional Home in Palestine and
then in the present-day State of
Israel.
Now the JNF remains the
bulwark of activities for the set-
tlement of tens of thousands of
expatriates from many lands.
