Celebrates 120th Year
With Special Issue

The London Jewish Chronicle,
oldest Jewish newspaper in the
world, will celebrate its 120th
anniversary with a special issue
Nov. 3.
Included in this issue will be
a souvenir facsimile reproduc-
tion of issue No. 1 dated Nov.
12, 1841. On that date The Jew-
ish Chronicle consisted of four
closely printed pages addressed
to the small Jewish community
in England, which then number-
ed about 30,000.
The anniversary issue will de-
pict some of the highlights of
120 years of newspaper history.
The event will be further com-
memorated by a -gathering on
Nov. 2, which will be attended by
members of the staff and leaders
of the Anglo-Jewish community,
including the Lord Mayor of Lon-
don . and Sir Keith Joseph Bart,
M.P.
The 120th anniversary has a
special significance for- Jews.
Based on the Biblical reference
to this period as the life span, it
has become of greater signifi-
cance than a centenary to Jews.
