Street Fighting in Tel Aviv; Firni Seeks Swedish Translation of Buber Is
to Lift Ban on Renault—Israel Headlines Slated as Hammarskjold Memorial

Street fighting in Tel Aviv,
reports from a daily newspaper
(termed "highly premature" by
government officials) that
Prime Minister David Ben-Gu-
rion would visit Africa and ef-
forts to lift the ban on the
French automobile firm, Ren-
ault, headlined the news in
Israel this week.
Several young Communists
were under arrest in Tel Aviv
following a clash which devel-
oped when they tried to distri-
bute leaflets demanding an in-
vestigation into recent border
incidents in which five Arab
youths were killed in an attempt
to cross into the Egyptian held
Gaza Strip.
The leaflets were signed by
the "Movement of Defenders of
Democracy; " a Communist-spon-
sored student group, and con-
tained pictures of the bodies of
the five Arabs and a demand
for a committee to determine
whether the slayings were
"crime or accident."
Distribution was started as
, thousands of Tel Aviv residents
began coming out of movie
houses after a late performance.
The angry crowd attacked the
distributors and police moved
in. Several of the distributors
were detained on a charge of
circulating illegal material.
