I education in Israel was inter- rupted when he enlisted and served with Jewish Brigade of the British Army in the Europ- ean Theater of Operations. During the Israeli War of In- dependence, he saw active serv- ice in the battle for Jerusalem, as well as in other parts of Israel. After the war he received his MA degree from the Hebrew University with majors in his- tory and international relations. Subsequently, he was awarded a British scholarship and fol- lowed post-graduate studies in Political Science at Oxford Uni- versity in England. He also served as commentator and news editor for Kol Israel, the Israel Broadcasting Service. The "Haverim," a new group, appearing in authentic costumes and under the direction of Har- riet Berg, will present a medley of songs and • interpretations of Israeli, Yemenite and Eu- ropean dances reflecting the influences of these cultures upon Jewish life. Prominent in community dance recitals, she is choreo- grapher for the Wayne State University Dance Workshop and a dance instructor at the Jewish Center. Yair Gruska, an Israeli studying in Detroit, will accom- pany on the accordian. The group is composed of Leslie Berg, Jill Drapkin, fenore Fer- ber, and Shirley Kollenberg. The public is invited to meet Ben-Dov and to join in the reception following the pro- gram. There will be no admis- sion charge. The Schulze PTA will meet 8 p.m. Oct. 11 at the school, Santa Maria and Meyers. Special guest for the evening will be Dr. Mel Ravitz, associate professor of sociology at Wayne State University, who will speak on "Changing Neighborhoods." The 32-page journal will be published in Grand Rapids, under the editorghip of Rabbi Harry Essrig, former regional director of the Union of Amer- ican Hebrew Congregations and spiritual leader of T e m p 1 é Emanuel in Grand Rapids. The editorial board is com- posed of rabbinic leaders in the United States representing the three branches of Judaism: Orthodox, Conservative and Re- form.
