CJFWF Starts Drive for Cash Collections NEW YORK, (JTA)—An un- precedented nationwide effort to help . its member communi- ties collect millions of dollars in still outstanding pledges was launched by the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, Irving Kane, Council president, announced. According to Kane, this un- usual step was taken because cash is needed immediately to contend with an unforeseen rise in immigration to Israel — be- yond all expectations a n d budgetary provision — and to deal with the mounting costs of services provided by the over- seas, national, and local agen- cies included in the welfare funds and federations of the United States and Canada. World Taking Notice of Israel's Acumen, Expansion in Hotel Field BY JOSHUA H. JUSTMAN Chief JTA Correspondent in Israel (Copyright, 1961, Jewish Telegraphic Agency, Inc.) Those planning to visit Israel should now be duly warned that, whatever criticism they might voice upon their return, they will no longer be in a position to complain about one thing: Israel's hotels. One reason lies of course in the fact that Israel can now point to a long list of first-rate luxurious hotels. However, there is a more powerful reason than that which, to be frank, came to us as a surprise. Facts and figures now made available show that Israel is acquiring a world-wide reputa- tion in the field of hotel man- agement and, while herself still seeking (by the force of habit, we assume) experts in the U.S.A., is in fact exporting hotel management know-how abroad. An Israel enterprise — the hotel division of the Feder- man Enterprises (which owns the King David Hotel in Jeru- salem, the Dan Hotel in Tel Aviv and the A c c a d i a in Herzliya)—is already managing four hotels abroad. The man- ager of the King David, Reuven Geffner, is leaving shortly to draw up a contract for the man- agement of a fifth one — in Upper Volta, Africa. only this Geffner here he week tract to a five-year Si a Lake the 240-room der the tel, near Rangoon. agre ent, the erms of 20 per- i rece Israel f' osS perational cent ovide the will pro , nage nd 10 other as tan xperts, while rsonne nel will spend per srael training in an hotels. ally, the hotel, which operated jointly by the a Economic Development orporation and the Federman Enterprises uilt as a gift ernment. —by th e, a 10 om hotel use — in Lafya Rest Nigeria, an, capital of W success- already operati manage- lly under a simi nd other 100- ment cot el now under room de also to be- cons man Enter- run pr the vicinity of capital of Da- soon be built by , and opened under omey4sraeli manage- - As low as '1385 P.O.E. 40 miles per gal. 36 Yrs. in Ferndale FOREIGN SALES • SERV HODGES FOREIGN SAL Complete Parts & Service — Exclusive Facilities.
