and a longer reference to the
Arab-Israel dispute as a source
of tension in the Middle East.
Nor does the name of Israel
appear anywhere on the score
or more of maps appearing in
the book, or in any of the nu-
merous charts on the Middle
East which are included in the
book.
An illustration in color, "Mid
dle- East Flags," depicts the
national colors of ten Middle
East countries, but not the blue
and white flag of Israel.
In dealing with present ten-
sions in the Middle East, the
Aramco Handbook notes that
"another cause has been the
tragic impasse in the Arab-
Israeli conflict. Current problems
in the Middle East cannot, be
understood without a comprehen-
sion of how strongly the Arabs
feel on this issue. The West's
apparent indifference to the
Arab viewpoint and to the plight
of the million or so Arab refu-
gees displaced from their homes
in Palestine has been both dis-
illusioning and frustrating to the
Arabs."
A historical section describing
the mandate system established
after World War I, makes refer-
ence to the British Mandate over
Palestine and the subsequent
severance of Jordan for estab-
lishment as an. independent
state, but fails to report that the
Palestine Mandate ended with
establishment of the State • of
Israel in part of the--territory of
Palestine, nor to explain in any
way how the Palestine Arab refu-
gee situation was created.
The editors added that "these
feelings, coupled with a real
sense of insecurity with respect
to possible further expansion of
, Israel, largely explain why Egypt*
and later Syria turned to the
Soviet Union for arms and eco-
non-dc assistance after failing to
get shat they wanted from the
West"
An introduction to the hand-
book noted that it had been pre-
pared by Aramco employes who
are not professional writers and
that the central purpose was "to
help Aramco employes see the
Aramco venture in proper per-
spective — to see what is hap-
pening- today against the back-
ground of the past and in the
light of current world affairs."
Opinions expressed, it said, "do
not necessarily represent official
views of company management."
No reference is made to Aramco
employment practices with re-
spect to the barring of Jews.

Hebrew University Denies Med
Students Seek Emigration to U.S.

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Dr.
Moshe Prywes, associate dean
of the Hebrew Univ er sit y-
Hadassah Medical School, de-
nied a report that appeared in
the Israeli press stating 40 per
cent of the school's graduating
class have registered for immi-
gration to the United States.
The fact is, Prywes said; that
a number of graduates have
registered with the United
States Consulate here for exam-
inations required by the Ameri-
can government for doctors
who plan to take post-graduate

work in the United States
any time in the future. " ey
register now," Prywes
ated,
"while their examinati
ma-
terial is fresh in thei
inds
for use should the o
ion
arise of their going to
United States at some time in
the future."
Prywes also declared as "un-
true" reports that 15 percent of
the school's graduates have left
Israel. The number, he said, is
exactly 15 doctors, or two-and-
a-half percent of the school's
600 graduates.

Senate Approves
Anti-Bias Clause

(Continued from Page 1)
measure into the Senate bill,
urging "the Executive depart-
ments concerned to give full
force to the sense of Congress
as expressed in this section in
the administration of the for-
eign assistance program to the
extent feasible and by other
appropriate means."
The clause declared it "the
sense of Congress that any at-
tempt by foreign nations to
create distinctions because of
their race or religion among
American citizens in the grant-
ing of personal or commercial
access or any other rights other-
wise available to U.S. citizens
generally is repugnant to our
principles, and in all negotia-
tions between the United States
and any foreign state, arising
as a result of funds appropri-
ated under this title, these
principles shall be applied as
the President may determine."
In the Senate debate on the
anti-bias provision, Sen. Hugh
Scott, Pennsylvania Republican,
said the Arab blockade was con-
tinuing with impunity despite its
impact on American citizens.
