I stood in the Pardees Hanna road
and waited for a bus. A young man
who looked as if he came from
abroad was at the station. "Where are
yOu from?" I asked him.
"I abs attending Yeshiva at Midra-
shiat Noam."
"But you are from abroad! or per-
haps I am making a mistake?" "Yes,
yes, I came especially to Israel to
attend the Midrashia. We have yeshi-
va in the U.S. too, but a yeshiva in
the U.S. cannot be compared to the
Yeshiva of Eretz Israel. For here we
study both secular and sacred studies.
In addition the very living (Heb.: -
Yeshiva) . influences me: So you see
the • word Yeshiva has two meanings
here." '
The yoirng man told me that in
1944 the first pupils began to attend
the Midrashia whereas today some
600 pupils study there. All of them
live in the place in a hall of resi-
dence. •
The programme is very interesting.
It provides each pupil both with Jew- .
ish and general culture—Torah with
Derekh Eretz. A pupil who graduates
from the Midrashia can enter any
institution of higher learning; he can
continue his Torah studies and be-
come a rabbi or choose secular
studies at any - university.
"You have found things to your
liking here?", I continued to ask. "I
can now tell you that I have. At
first . I experienced difficulties of

course in Hebrew, but now as Yo
can hear I have succeeded in learn-
ing the language."
The bus came and we parted. From
the distance I saw the Midrashia all
of it in the midst of green trees.
