If anything in the South was
a rarity during the Civil War
period, it was a Southerner who
was Abolitionist in his sympa-
thies.
Yet, 'according to his auto-
biography in the files of the
American Jewish Archives at
Cincinnati's Hebrew Union Col-
lege-Jewish Institute of Reli-
gion, Prussian-born Julius Hen-
ry, who lived in Texas f
1859 to his death in 19
just such a rarity.
