Mrs. Samuel B. Danto, general chairman for the coming
(Sept. 22-24) Fine Arts Exhibit at the Light Guard Armory,
sponsored by the Michigan Federation of Democratic Women,
announces a final steering committee report meeting will be
held 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Maxine Sheldon's courtyard on
Livernois.
Mr. and Mrs. Austin A. Kanter, 19475 Mendota, attended
the General Agents Conference of National Life Insurance
Company, Montpelier, Vermont, at Hilton Iim, International
Airport, San Francisco. From there, Mr. and Mrs. Kanter flew
to Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. Kanter qualified to attend National
Life's 1961 educational conference held at Hawaiian Village
Hotel.
Mrs. Betty A. Block, of 3421 W. Chicago, has returned from
a vacation which included Ft. Worth, Tex., Las Vegas and
Hawaii: Her sister, Mrs. M. J. Sherman, of Fort Worth, accom-
panied her on the trip to Las Vegas and Hawaii.
Amelia Janiotis left for Europe _Sept. 1, after being bid
farewell at a family gathering hosted by her uncles and aunts,
Mr. and Mrs. Louis LaMed, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Malamud.
Miss Janiotis is a staff member on the project for Machine
Translation Research, located at Wayne State University's Slavic
and Eastern Languages Department. She received both her
B.S. and M.S. degrees in • mathematics from Wayne State, has
been employed as a m-athemetician by the university's Comput-
ing Center, and at present holds the position of chief research
associate on the project which conducts, research into the prob-
lems of automatic translation from Russian into English. The
project is sponsored by the U.S. Navy Department, Office of
Naval Research, and is currently in its fourth year of activity,
under the direction of Dr. Harry H. Josselson, Chairman of the
Slavic Department. After a weekend circuit of Paris, she flew
to England to participate in the First International Conference
on Machine Translation, held at the National Physical Labora-
tory, at- Teddington, Middlesex, England, from Sept. 5-9. She will
spend three weeks as the guest of her uncle, Ehpraim Melamed,
and his family who reside at Kibbutz Ramat Yochanan, Israel.
Janet Winer of Beverly Hills, Calif., is visiting her grand-
mother, Mrs. Lena Rosen of Broadstreet Ave., following a' Euro-
pean tour. She will join her mother, Mrs. Morris Winer, who
has been visiting relatives in Detroit this summer.

per pat for salted spreads.
