A Warning to Advertisers

Irresponsible Newspapers Again Flood
Community with Unethical Solicitations

Irresponsible and unethical solicitations of advertising from loca
merchants, by newspapers without circulation in Detroit, again was
evidence here this week.
Far in advance of Rosh Hashanah, periodicals—one with a C
address and the others published in New York—a•e soliciting adv
here by approaching merchants whose advertisements have ap
The Jewish News.
They are pursuing a practice that already has been cond
national organizations by clipping advertising from our colu
billing the merchants as if they had appeared in their papers.
After the appearance of the first warning to our advertisers,
one of the national periodicals th at had resorted to this unethical
scheme promised to abandon it.
The Chicago paper has less than a dozen readers here and is reputed
to have less than 300 readers in Chicago, where it appears only on holi-
days, to capitalize on the festivals as means of getting revenue.
Local advertisers who receive statements from such periodicals are
cautioned to check on them carefully and not to be misled by them. A
number of merchants already have turned their statements over to The
Jewish News and they are being acted upon by a national organization

Army. Urged to Discharge Employe
for Helping American Nazi Party

WASHINGTON, (JTA) — A
congressman called on Secre-
tary of Defense Robert S. Mc-
Namara to discharge Schuyler
Ferris, holder of a strategic
U.S. Army civilian position, be-
cause of charges that Ferris
provided the American Nazi
party with its "hate bus" and
otherwise aided George Rock-
well's movements.
Rep. Seymour Halpern, New
York Republican, cited informa-
tion about Ferris, an employee
of the U.S. Army Map Service,
and wrote Secretary McNamara
he was "perplexed that such
an individual has • classified
access to the army's secret maps."

Defense Department sources
commented only that the Ferris
case was "under study" by ap-
propriate agencies. When Ar-
lington, Va., police a few days
ago impounded the Nazi "hate
bus" it was found that the ve-
hicle was registered in the
name of Ferris who was pre-
viously linked with Rockwellite
agitation.
The State Department has re-
quested Attorney General Rob-
t Kennedy to help them stem

th situation. A Department of
