Arab-Nazi Romance Reaches Zenith in liehmann Case

I W. German Viewers
Consider TV Series on
Nazi Era 'Unfair'

THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS — Friday, July '7, 1961

Agency, Inc.) .

BONN, (JTA)—Public opinion
polls of West German reaction
to a television series on the Hit-
ler era indicated this week that
many viewers considered the
grisly programs unfair.
The 14 documentary programs,
describing the Hitler era to its
collapse, provided many Ger-
mans, particularly the younger
generation, the first chance to - see
the frightful details of the Nazi
treatment of those who opposed
Hitler and particularly his Jewish
victims.
The series showed wholesale
shootings of men, women and
children in Poland, executions in
concentration camps and similar
atrocities. Many of the films
were from Nazi archives.
An estimated 80 per cent of
the adults of West Germany and
West Berlin either saw some or
all of the programs or heard
about them. Polls by the Aliens-
bach Public Opinion Institute in-
dicated that only two-fifths of
the viewers regarded the presen-
tation of the Hitler period as
"correct." Twenty per cent said
they regarded the series as pre-
senting an "incorrect" picture.

JERUSALEM — Many of the
Nazi arch-criminals whose
names have been mentioned at
the Eichmann trial in Jerusa-
lem found refuge in Latin-
America after the war, particu-
lary in Peron's Argentina.
Many of the high-ranking SS
men and Gestapo officials now
"serve" as top advisers to Col-
onel Nasser, particularly in the
field of propaganda, and youth
organizations. Israeli circles
suspect, for example, that some
of the more ingenious anti-Israel
rumors originate from those
Nazi experts in Cairo.
The story about West Ger-
many reselling Israel-made sub-
machine guns to Portugal for
use in Angola bears marks rem-
iniscent of Goebbels' methods.
Arab propaganda, particularly
that originating from Cairo, is
openly sympathetic to Eich-
mann.
The official Egyptian position
was made by Deputy Foreign
Minister Hussein Zulficar Sabri
in Parliament last month: He
declared:

salem Times" said in an edi-
torial, "what a pity, Eichmann,
that you allowed those swine to
arrest you. . . . But be brave,
Eichmann, and find solace in
the fact that this trial will one
day culminate in the liquidation
of the remaining six million to
avenge your blood . . ."
The Damascus daily "Al-
Akhbar" wrote: "To his great
honor, it is said of Eichmann
that he is the greatest blood-
purger of mankind ... -Let me-
cite here the words of the
Arab poet, Nasib ar-Rifai who
said: 'If Hitler failed to wipe
you out—God has kept us'—and
what this meais is that Allah
has kept us alive in order to
wipe out the Jews and the Zion-
ists."
The pro-Nassei. Beirut daily
"Al-Anwar" published a car-
toon showing Ben-Gurion point-
ing an accusing finger at Eich-
man. Ben-Gurion is depicted
with a typical hooked "Jewish"
nose while Eichmann is seen in
a smart uniforin, youthful look-
ing with a face like that of
Nasser in the imagination of
Cairo poster-artists. The caption
under the cartoon reads: "Ben
Gurion: 'You deserve the death
penalty because you killed six
million Jews.' Eichmann: 'There
are many who say that I de-
serve the death penalty because
I didn't manage to kill the
rest.' "
The "romance" between
the Arab nationalists and the
Nazis, and Eichmann in par-
ticular, is nothing new. Actu-
ally it goes back to the last
years before the Second
World War and resulted in
close collaboration between
many Arab leaders and the

Axis Powers during the war. European Jews escape from
Nasser, for example, makes Nazi occupied territories. This
s amply documented during
no secret of his admirar
Eichmann trial. The

Complaint Against
Nazi High Official
Rejected in Germany

BONN, (JTA) — The State
Prosecutor of Brunswick rejected
a complaint filed by 30 Jewish
citizens of Amsterdam, Holland,
against Dr. Friedrick Knost, Ad-
ministrative President of Bruns-
wick, whom they accused Of hav-
ing collaborated in writing a com-
mentary on the Nuremberg anti-
Jewish laws while he was an
official in the Nazi Ministry of
Interior.
The prosecutor's office reject-
ed the complaint on the technical
grounds that the statute of limi-
tations barred action now. The
prosecutor rejected a similar
complaint earlier•' this year on
the grounds that there was "no
casual connection between the
commentary and the extermin-
ation of the Jews."
