Jacob Baker, Former
Detroiter, Dies in Israel

Word has been received here
of the death in Israel on May
18 of Jacob Baker, a former De-
troiter.
Mr. Baker, who lived in De-
troit for 40 years (his last resi-
dence on Taylor Ave.), moved
to Bnei Brak, Israel, two-and-a-
half years ago with his wife, Ida.
During their residence here,
the Bakers were known for their
philanthropic activities and devo-
tion to charitable institutions. Mr.
Baker was a member of the
Jewish Home for Aged, Hebrew
Benevolent Society, Yeshivath
Beth Yehudah, Yeshivath Chach-
mey Lublin and others.
Surviving are his wife, Ida;
nephew, Samuel Erlich; nieces,
Mrs. Tillie Levcovitz, Mrs. Bella
Bussell, Mrs. Sol Whiteman of
Windsor, Ont., and other nephews
and nieces in Israel and Louis-
ville, Ky.

Knesset Member,
Ezra Ichilov, Dies

TEL AVIV, (JTA)—Ezra Ichi-
lov, 54, member of the Knesset,
representing what was formerly
the General Zionist Party, and
a candidate for the next Knesset
elections on behalf of the Liberal
Party, died here . Monday of a
heart attack.
Born in Petah Tikva, Ichilov
was elected a member of that
town's Municipal Council in
1931. He was elected to the
Knesset in 1951,

Oritt, Israel Bond
Leader in Miami, Dies

MIAMI, (JTA)—Samuel Oritt,
56, Miami industrialist; who was
for several years general chair-
man of the Greater Miami Com-
mittee for State of :Israel Bonds,
died last . weekend of a heart ail-
ment. Hewas director -of Israel
Investers Corporation, and a vice-
president of the Union of Ameri-
can Hebrew Congregations.

of United Dairies, Dead

Active in Jewish community
affairs and one of the founders
of United Dairies, Inc., Israel
Sokanoff, 18603 Wildemere,
died June 22 at the age of 75.
Mr. Sokanoff, who with 20
other route drivers formed the
dairy firm in 1929, retired eight
years ago. He was especially
active in the Workmen's Circle
and the Jewish Labor Corn-
mittee.
Mr. Sokanoff's wife, Sophie
(Picktinsky), died 12 years ago.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Albert
of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; a
daughter, Mrs. Lawrence (Lil-
lian) Stocker; a sister, Mrs.
Robert Rubin, and five grand-
children.
