COBLENZ—Prison terms at
hard labor were imposed Mon-
day night by the Coblenz court
on two former Nazi SS officers
for complicity in the slaughter
of 6,624 Russian Jews in Minsk
-in 1941.
A 15-year sentence was given
to Carl Zenner, 62, a former
SS brigade leader and ,major
general of Nazi police, and an
eight year term to Hans Rem
mers, 55, former SS lieutenant
colonel.
Testimony by Zenner, who
had been SS police leader in
Minsk in November, 1941, when
the murders took place, was
contradicted by Remmers. Zen-
ner claimed he knew nothing
about the mass shootings and
that he had only heard rumors
about them. Remmers testified
that Zenner had been helpful in
preparing for and carrying out
the mass executions.

TEL AVIV — Three Soviet

artists, who arrived in Israel
Monday for a series of perform-
ances, began rehearsals with the
Israel Philharmonic Orchestra
for a recital here Saturday
night for which all 3,000 seats
have been sold.
The performers — Lev Vial-
senko and Maria Karandasheva,
pianists, and Mikhail Veinman,
a violinist—are the first to visit
Israel from the Soviet Union.
Among the throngs who turned
up at the airport to welcome
the visiting artists were Soviet
Ambassador Mikhail Bodrov,
heading a delegation of Russian
Embassy officials, and members
of the Israel-Russia Friendship
League.
The Israeli impressarios who
arranged the tour • expressed
the -hope that more Russian
artists, dance groups, ballet
companies and even an operatic
troupe might visit Israel in the,
near future.
