Elias Halpern, Father
of Rabbi Israel Halpern,
Dies in Bnei Brak, Israel
Elias Halpern, f a th e r of
Rabbi Israel Halpern, spiritual
leader of Cong. Beth Abraham,
died June 5 in Bnei Brak,
Israel. He was 69.
Born in Poland, Mr. Halpern
moved to Montreal, Quebec, i
1915, where his children we
born and where he was
active leader in the Jew .h
community. He retired fr
business in Montreal a
moved, with his wife, to Bnei
Brak 13 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Libba;
two sons, Rabbi Israel Halpern
and Rabbi Murray S. Halpern of
Brooklyn, N.Y.; -a daughter,
Mrs. L. KraMer, wife of Rabbi
Kramer, head of the Lubavit-
cher Yeshivah in Montreal; and
10 grandchildren. Interment was
in Bnei Brak.
CHICAGO, (JTA)—Benjamin
Samuels, president of the Yel-
low Cab Company and promi-
nent Jewish leader, died here
after a long illness. He was 83
years old. A former interna-
tional vice-president of the
Bnai Brith, Samuels was an

Anti-Defamation . League. .He
was a founder of the Leo
Nathan Levi Memorial Hospi-
tal in Hot Springs, Ark., and
vice-chairman of the midwest
regional committee of the
National Jewish Hospital of

Dr. John Mossman Dies
A member of -the staffs of
Grace, Sinai and Detroit Me-
morial hospitals, Dr. John D.
Mossman, 18914 Warrington,
died June 4. He was 46.
Dr. Mossman was a graduate
of the University of Western
Ontario Medical School. He was
a member of Keidan Lodge,
Bnai Brith; the Wayne County
Medical Society, Maimonides
Medical Society and Temple
Israel. He was a veteran of
World War II. Surviving are
his wife, Pauline; two sons,
Richard and Bruce; a brother,
Ben; and a sister, Mrs. Bernard
(Annette) Wunder of HaMilton,
Ont.

Draft Order Dies
JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Fun-
eral services attended by thous-
ands of mourners, including
Cabinet ministers, members of
the Knesset and senior govern-
ment officials, were held. here
Monday for Dr. Leo Kohn, poli-
tical adviser to the Foreign
Ministry, professor of interna-
tional relations at the Hebrew
University and author of Israel's
proposed draft constitution, who
died Saturday at the age of 67.
Born in Frankfurt, Dr. Kohn
settled in Jerusalem in 1925 and
served as political - secretary to
the Jewish Agelilcy from 1934 to
1948.

TEL AVIV, (JTA) — Judah
Bleich, a prominent Yiddish
theater personality, died here
while on a visit to Israel. He
was 60 years old. A former actor
with the Yiddish Art Theater in
New York, Bleich was head of
the drama department of the
Milwaukee Jewish Community
Center. He was born in Tarno-
pol, Galicia, and • came to the
United States in 1920.
