Dan Slobin Named
to Harvard Research
Project in Israel

Dan I. Slobin; son of Dr. and
Mrs. Norval L., Slobin of Mark
Twain Ave., has been selected
to accompany the Language Re-
search Inc. of Harvard Univer-
sity on a research project in an
Israeli school this summer.
The project, "New Design in
Elementary. Second Language
Teaching", will demonstrate and
test methods designed to teach
English as a second language to
children of many different lin-
guistic and socio-cultural back-
grounds.
Slobin, a graduate student in
social psychology at Harvard,
will provide observation, crit-'
ical analysis and a written
evaluation of the project.
The Israeli Ministry of Edu-
cation and Culture is providing
30 sixth grade children to serve
as pupils in the project. They
will constitute a demonstration
class for the training of 50
selected Israeli teachers of
English.
The project will be located at
Yad Levanon, near Petakh Tik-
vah. •
Israel's Ministry of Educa-
tion and Culture also has in-
vited Language Research, Inc.
to set up a three-year experi-
mental program of elementary
English instruction in the Is-
raeli schools.
