Family-Children's
Service Will Honor
Mrs. John Farkus

Mrs. John Farkus, a foster
mother to 28 children during
the past 32 years, will be hon-
ored by the board of the Jewish
F'amily and Children's Service
at a tea to be held 2-4 p.m.
Sunday at the Jewish Center.
Members and friends of the
Family Service and many of
Mrs. Farkus' foster children and
their families will join com-
munal leaders in paying tribute
to the devoted public servant.
Mrs. Farkus is resigning from
foster motherhood but is con-
tinuing her many services in
the community.
The United Community Serv-
ices has named Mrs. Farkus
"Volunteer of the Week" in
honor of the occasion.

annual banquet of the congre-
gation will be held 6 p.m. Sun-
day at its new location, 14000
W. Nine Mile, Oak Park.
Mishkan Israel, founded 51
years ago, will honor. Louis
Hammes, outgoing past presi-
dent.
Featured will be an address
by Rabbi Isaac Stollman, spirit-
ual. leader. Cantor Jacob Tam-
bor will render the musical
portion of the program.
General chairman of the ban-
quet is Louis Bush; associate
charmen, Aaron Katz and Paul
Brickner. The banquet com-
mittee includes Jacob Bockow,
Harry Berman, Morris Biter-
man, Isaac Faxstein, Aaron
Friedenberg, Jacob Fishman
Julius Hechtman, Lazar Ha
mes, Max Maniker, Nathan S
met and Max Tyner.

Engagement Told

Family and friends will join in a "three-in-one" celebration in
honor of Gloria Mari Burns, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Burns, 18459 Hubbell, 2-5 p.m. June 25. The event will mark
Gloria's confirmation from the 10th grade at Ahavas Achim Reli-
gious School, her graduation from the Shaarey Zedek Hebrew
High School and her graduation froth the Winship Junior High
School.
A tea was given in honor of Rochelle Fleischer, bride-to-be of
Arthur Lieberman, on May 23, at 18461 Ilene. The hostesses were
Mrs. Alex Schoenfeld and Mrs. Beatrice Schoenfeld, Miss Fleischer's
aunts.
Barbara Sue Goldsmith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Gold-
smith, 18924 Pennington, will receive the degree of Bachelor of
Religious Education from the Teachers Institute—Seminary Col-
lege of Jewish Studies of the Jewish Theological Seminary of
America, 122nd St. and Broadway, New York. The degree will
be awarded at the Seminary's 67th annual commencement ex-
ercises, Sunday, at 3:30 p.m. Miss Goldsmith also will be granted
a Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University as
part of the joint academic program between the Seminary's
