Shoshana Damari, "the Yem- enite Songbird," is returning to the United States after a num- ber of years' absence and will make one of her first appear- ances in America at the Israel Bar Mitzvah banquet here June 8 at the Sheraton-Cadillac Hotel. The entire Detroit Jewish com- munity is invited to the celebra- tion, which highlights the 1961 Bond campaign. Reuther will be honored as "The Labor Man of the Decade" at a Detroit Israel Bond Committee testimonial dinner here June 21. * $ * 'Labor Man of Decade' National Figures Will Head Israel Testimonial in Detroit for Reuther Mrs. Franklin Delano Roose- velt and Senator Herbert H. Lehman will be co-chairmen of the "Labor Man of the Decade" testimonial dinner for Walter P. Reuther to be held June 21 in the Fountain ballroom of the Masonic Temple. Reuther, president of the United Auto Workers and vice president of the AFL-CIO, will be honored in Detroit as "The 'Labor Man of the Decade" by the State of Israel through the Detroit Israel' Bond Committee. Ambassador Ehud , Avriel, deputy director-general of the Israeli Foreign Office, the first Israeli minister to Czecho- slovakia, Ghana and the Bel- gian Congo, and former di- rector-general of the Prime Minister's Office, will present the award to Reuther. Reuther attended the dedi- cation of the Reuther Youth Hostel at Holon, near Tel-Aviv, Israel, on May 13. The support of millions of Americans for the people of Israel was pledged by Reuther. He said that Israel and the Histadrut, Israel's labor federa- tion, 'are, in the eyes of the free world, an example of what could be achieved by a people moti- vated by the will for peace. Emil Mazey, secretary-treas- urer of the UAW; Gus Scholle, president of the Mich- igan State AFL-CIO; and Al Barbour, head of the Wayne County AFL-CIO Council, are co-chairmen of the Michigan Host Committee which is planning the testimonial to Reuther here.
