Moroccan Jews Delay Plan to Name Chief Rabbi

Post of Bar Mitzvah Year Israel
Bond Chief Goes to Tom Borman

Tom Borman, president of
Food Fair of Michigan, a leader
in the Detroit Jewish community
and active in many civic and
philanthropic en d e a v or s, has
accepted the post of general
chairman of the Detroit Israel
Bond Committee.
Borman succeeds David Saf-
ran under whose chairmanship
the Detroit Israel Bond drive
had the third best year in its
history, with Bond sales totaling
$1,038,000.
Borman was Israel Bond chair-
man in 1959 and has earned the
title of "Mr. Bonds" in Detroit.

been realized from Israel Bond
sales, enabling industrial produc-
tion to increase three - fold,
doubling their agricultural out-
put and developing their natural
resources, including potash, phos-
phates, oil, copper and other
valuable minerals.
"This anniversary marks the
coming of age of Israel's econ-
omy. "The _country has advanced
from a position of extreme aus-
terity, to a relatively high degree
of economic stability at the
same- time that the educational,
cultural and social welfare level
has likewise risen to the highest
standard in their part of the
world. The country's progress
will be accelerated as its de-
velopment and growth are speed-
ed with the investment dollars
we make available through our
Israel Bond purchases."

He is a Golden _Trustee, as the
Borman family has suscribed
for $50,000 of Israel Bonds in
1961. •
"I consider it a great honor
to have been designated Israel
Bond chairman in 1961," said
Borman, "since this year we
celebrate two major events in
the history of modern Israel.
First, it is the Bar Mitzvah—the
13th anniversary — of the State
of Israel. Second, it is the tenth
anniversary of the. State of Is-
rael Bond Organization which
has become the most important
source of funds for the develop-
ment of Israel's economy."
The Bormans' philanthropies
have financed the Borman series
of lectures on the Middle East
at Wayne State University, have
contributed $50,000 to the Uni-
versity of Detroit, and have con-
tributed $100,000 for Encyclo-
pedias to the Detroit public
schools and have also aided in
financing the building of a new
branch of the United Hebrew
Schools in" Livonia, which has
been named in their honor.

Shrinks Hemorrhoids
Without Surgery

Stops Itch—Relieves Pain

For the first time science has found
a new healing substance with the as-
tonishing ability to shrink hemor-
rhoids and to relieve pain — without
surgery. In case after case, while
gently relieving pain, actual reduc-
tion (shrinkage) took place. Most
amazing of all — results were so thor-
ough that sufferers made astonishing
statements like "Piles have ceased to
be a problem!" The secret is a new
healing substance (Bio-Dyne®)— dis-
covery of a world-famous research
institute. This substance is now avail-
able in suppository or ointment form
called Preparation H®. At all drug
counters.

CASABLANCA, (JTA) — The
Council of Jewish Communities
here has temporarily abandoned
plans to appoint directly a spirit-
ual le4der for the community in
the post of Chief Rabbi.
The Council wanted the post of
Chief Rabbi to be dependent on
the Jewish community itself, rath-
er than on the Ministry of Jus-
tice, which appoints the Moroccan
rabbis.
The plan for the direct appoint-
ment by the Council of a Chief
Rabbi had been rejected by Rabbi
Saul Danan, president of the
High Rabbinical Council, who felt
that such a move would "disor-
ganize" the religious affairs in
the Jewish community.
Danan said the plan would
"sow disorder" among Jewish re-
ligious circles in Morocco with-
out bringing any advantages.
There are 160,032 Jews now
living in Morocco, 71,175 of them
