JERUSALEM—A serious les-
son in the Eichmann trial is
that there can be no generaliz-
ing = that while Germans are
collectively responsible for what
had happened during the Nazi
regime, there were individual
Germans who helped rescue
Jews and were active in the un-
derground anti-Nazi movement,
limited as it may have been.
By the same token, the accu-
sations leveled at the British
that they had failed to come to
the aid of Jewish refugees by
keeping Palestine's doors closed
to Jews also defy generalization.

they were assimilated, "Zionists
were a minority, .forming only
five per cent of German Jewry,"
and they denied that "the cul-
tured German nation could re-
sort to iniquities."
The first mass movement to
destroy Jewish businesses in
Germany and eventually to up-
root Germany Jewry, Cohn said,
was initiated by the editor of
the pornographic anti - Semitic
newspaper, Der Stuermer, Jul-
ius Streicher, who was hanged
in Nuremberg in 1946.
The matter of "generalizing"
undoubtedly will be brought to
the fore here time and again.

`Deportation Day' Observed by French

PARIS, (JTA)—In solemn, im-

France, hundreds of Jews, many
of them wearing the striped yel-

to wear in Nazi concentration
camps, paid tribute to the
memories of the many Jews who
perished in the Nazi death camps
during World War II.
