statement which declared:

JERUSALEM, Israel. — The
expose of the holocaust would be
incomplete without the statement
that was made by Dieter Wislici-
eny, Eichmann's right-hand man,
before he was sentenced to exe-
cution at the Nuremberg trial in
1946.
Wislicieny had offered to go on
a search for Eichmann. It was
believed that he had tried to save
his own skin. His statement con-
demning Eichmann was devas-
tating.
Israel's Attorney General Gide-
on Hausner read it into the court
record. Wislicieny stated:

"In the year 1943 my, interest was
centered on information I requested
from the Joint Distribution Corn-
mittee, and I made a special effort
to collect all information regarding
the number of 'Jews affected in
other countries.
"In 1944, in Budapest, I spoke to
Dr. Rudolf Kastner, the representa-
tive of Joint, and compared informa-
tion with him especially with re-
gard to the total number of Jews
thus affected. I was in continual
contact with Dr. Kastner until 19 '
and saw him for the last tin
March 1945 in my apart

Hoess remarked that only twen y or,
at the most, twenty-five per cent
of Hungarian Jews were useful for
work. Hoess said that this percent-
age also applied to Jews sent to
Auschwitz from all German-occupied
Europe, except those from Greece,
who were of even lower quality and
should be exterminated. Amongst
the healthy were women and chil-
dren about the ages of twelve and
thirteen: Hoess and Eichmann said
that all Jews unfit for work should
be exterminated.
"All the extermination operations
were carried out in closed camps;
Auschwitz and Maidanek were con-
sidered extermination camps A and
M respectively. It is known to me
that Jews in Auschwitz and other
concentration camps were killed by
means of gas from the beginning of
spring, 1942. Eichmann said that in
the case of groups from which the
healthy ones were selected, those
who were not fit for- work should
have been gassed right away;- if
there was no selection, the selection
should have been done in concen-
tration camps before those incapable
of work were gassed. The control as
to who was ablebodied and who was
not was extremely superficial.
"At the beginning of 1944, Hitler
ordered that the extermination of
Jews should be stopped, but Eich-
mann did not carry out this order
until he received an original order
signed by Himmler.
"Thousands of Jews who were sent
to concentration camps died of con-
tagious diseases, malnutrition — as
in Sachsenhausen Camp, for exam-
ple."

Dieter Wislicieny swear and
declare: I am 34 years of age and I
was a member of the NSDAP since
1933 and a member of the S.S. since
July 1934. Since 1940, I was an offi-
cer of the S.S. As from 1934 I was a
part of the nucleus of the party,
until 1940, and I was in Danzig.
From 1940 until 1944, I was an ex-
pert on Jewish matters in Slovakia,
and my service also included service
in Hungary and in Greece.
"I met Adolf Eichmann, formerly
the head of Office IVB4, S.H.A.
I knew him well since . 1934, when
we joined the Security Service, the
S.D. Our relations were so close that
we addressed each other in the first
person. In Berlin as from 1934 until
1937, we continued a friendly rela-
tionship until 1940, when he was in
Vienna and I was in Danzig.
"Eichmann's duty was to conduct
a central office for Jewish emigra-
tion, and he was later brought to
Berlin with the R.S.H.A. to head
the Office IVB4, responsible for the
solution of the Jewish problem and
all matters of the Church. It was
Eichmann's position, and I was ap-
pointed as expert for the Office
IVB4, which dealt only with the
Jewish problem.
"There were three periods of ac-
tivity regarding Jews. The first pe-
riod from 1937, when the Jewish
Department was first established,
until 1940. During this period, the
policy was to accelerate the evacu-
ation of Jews from Germany and
Austria. This is why the central of-
fice was put up in Vienna and later
there was a similar office in Prague.
After the victory over France we
considered the Madagascar Plan for
the emigration of Jews. But this
plan was never used.
"The second period, 1940 to 1941,
included the concentration of Jews
