THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS — Frld'ay, April 21, 1961 --

Detroit TV to Show
Film on Nat'l Jewish
Hospital at Denver

"They Go to Live", dramatic
story of the National Jewish Hos-
pital at Denver, world famous,
free non-sectarian treatment and
research center, will be shown
on WWJ-TV, Channel 4, at 4
p.m., April 23, it was announced
by Leon S. Wayburn, Detroit ad-
vertising executive and chairman
of the Detroit Committee of the
hospital.
The film, honored at the Edin-
burgh Film Festival, took more
than a year to
prepare. It has
only one pro-
fessional per-
former, T e a I
Ames— the
young woman
in the role of k:
t h e tuberculo-
sis sufferer
who meets and
overcomes the
many problems
of the disease.
All of the oth-
er parts are
played by the it
actual patients Miss Ames
and staff of the hospital.
The half-hour show tells the
story of the 62-year old institu-
tion which treats tuberculosis,
asthma, allied chest diseases, in-
cluding operable cardiac condi-
tions, and conducts an interna-
tionally known research program.
The nationally famous institu-
tion admits patients without re-
gard to their race, creed or coun-
try of origin. It has operated
since its founding in 1899 by the
Bnai Brith on the motto: "None
may enter who can pay . . . none
can pay who enter".
More than 50,000 patients from
every state in the union have
received free more than 4,000,-
000 days of the finest medical
and rehabilitation treatment.
These figures include 78,438
days of free patient care render-
ed td the needy ill from the De-
troit area.
The presentation of "They Go
to Live" will be broadcast in
connection with the observance
on April 26, of National Jewish
Hospital Day, proclaimed by
Mayor Louis C. Miriani.
