among Jewish personnel in the
Army of the United States, the
Department of the Army has
commissioned the National Jew-
ish Welfare Board Commission
on Jewish Chaplaincy to con-
duct a series of religious leader-
ship development projects at
14 selected Army bases in the
United States and Panama.
Aimed at enhancing the effec-
tiveness of its overall . religious
activities for military personnel
and their dependents, the Army
requested the commission to
1 develop and conduct the pro-
gramwhich has four objectives:
1. To serve as a stimulus to
the on-going Jewish chapel pro-
gram
•
2. To teach interested per-
sonnel the techniques they will
need to act. as Jewish lay
leaders at other military instal-
lations to which they may be
assigned and where there may
not be a full-time Jewish chap-
lain on duty
3. To provide a meaningful
Jewish experience for military
personnel who may shortly re- .
turn to civilian life
4. To develop a proved tech-
nique for quickening the Jew-
shness of residents of isolated
communities.
