Area Workmen's - Bornstein-Eisler I ,Circle to Aid in Rites Solomnized -.5 'Books Abroad' Detroiters will soon be given the 'opportunity to contribute in a very real way to the ideo- struggle against Corn- : logical - munism. Mayor Miriani has endorsed a new "Books Abroad Project" and proclaimed May 10 as "Books Abroad Day" in Detroit. At the request of United States Information Agency ex- ecutive Benjamin R. Stickney, the Workmen's Circle of De- troit has agreed . to initiate a campaign to help the peoples of the world to understand bet- ter the democratic way of life. At a recent Presidential news conference, it was pointed out that the Soviet Union and Com- munist China send a large pro- portion of • the three -to four billion books they publish an- nually to t h e uncommitted countries, whereas the U. S. Information Agency is able to send only a relatively small number. At the present time, a pro- visional committee has been organized by the Workmen's Circle for the purpose of reach- ing a representative segment of Greater Detroit's population which will inaugurate a one or two-week campaign to collect good reading material. Every- one will be called upon to sub- mit books at various collection ,points,- from which they will be shipped abroad by the USIA to combat the flow of Corn- . munist propaganda. The larger, working commit- tee will be formed, and policies and target dates for the drive will be adopted at a special dutch treat luncheon to be held' ' noon May 10 at the Sheraton Cadillac Hotel. T h e Provisional Committee is headed by Monroe M. Title, and the secretaries are Mrs. Moses Caplan and Mrs. Shmarya Kleinman. Temporary headquarters of the "Books Aboard" project is at the Workmen's. Circle Edu- cational Center, 18340 W. Seven Mile. Meisner-Lippitt Announce Partnership in Insurance Agency Gordon R. Mayor Proclaims National Jewish Hospital Day, - Area Leaders Meet Despite its name, the National Jewish Hospital at Denver is a non-secretarian medical and re- search center which admits all patients regardless of their race, their religious following, or their national origin. It operates on this principle 365 days in the year, laying down only one rule for admissions— you must be unable to pay for treatment. This is embodied in its motto: "None may enter who can pay .. • none can pay who enter." This 325-bed institution is in its 62nd year of rendering treat- ment and doing research in tu- berculosis, asthma, and other chest diseases, including , cardio- vascular ailments which lend themselves to surgery.
