Others believe that the differences in pronunciation stem from the two different cultures that developed simultaneously from Palestine and Babylonia. Still others claim that the so-called Sephardic pronunciation is. a development of the Jewish community in Spain, while the Ashkenazic pronunciation was the original from Palestine. Whatever theory is accepted, it is quite clear that the two Jewries had a different development since the destruc- tion of the Temple and it should, therefore, not be surprising to find their pronunciation of the Hebrew language affected by the particular environment through which they traveled.
